Not long after the internet exploded with fan outrage over a lack of Lady Stoneheart in the Season 4 finale of Game Of Thrones, director Alex Graves has revealed the reason behind her absence — and you might not be satisfied with his answer! ‘Game Of Thrones’: Lady Stoneheart Was Cut From The Finale — Director Alex Graves Explains Why
The appearance of Lady Stoneheart, the resurrected corpse of Catelyn Stark, closes out Storm Of Swords, the third book of the Song Of Ice And Fire series, the latter half of which is the source material for Season 4 of GoT. Therefore, many diehard fans were hoping to see Lady Stoneheart appear — indeed, there certainly were hints that she would. However, she didn’t, and ASoIaF fans took to the internet to vent their frustrations.

Well, according to director Alex Graves — who directed “The Children” — Lady Stoneheart was never slated for an appearance. However, he’s not the boss — he wanted to see her, too! Did they even shoot a Lady Stoneheart scene? “It’s a great question,” Alex told EW, “because it’s all I asked about last year when I was doing [the episode with Brotherhood Without Banners leader] Beric Dondarrion — who ultimately is the person who finds Catelyn and turns her into Lady Stoneheart.
“But no, they didn’t do it. It was never on the docket to do this season — ever.”

Alex gave some credit to showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, saying that, “To bring back Michelle Fairley, one of the greatest actresses around, to be a zombie for a little while — and just kill people? [...] What are we doing with that?

“In case you didn’t notice, a lot happens this season … To add that in is something they [already] opted out of. But what’s funny is that it was never going to be in the season, yet it took off on the Internet like it was going to happen.” Well, there were hints!
And will Lady Stoneheart appear next season? “As somebody who’s worked deep inside the show, begged to have an answer and wants more than anybody, I have no idea,” Alex told EW. “They won’t tell me. They’re very good at being secretive.”
